'Incredible evening' to celebrate Sheffield sport
Plans are well underway for what promises to be an incredible evening celebrating Sheffield’s sporting achievement at elite and grassroots levels.
The second staging of Sheffield’s Celebration of Sport is on Thursday 4 October at the English Institute of Sport – Sheffield.
With Sheffield sporting names from a wide range of sports already confirmed including figures from the Winter Olympics – Katie and Molly Summerhayes, Commonwealth Games – Mike Tuck as well as the recently held European Championships, it promises to be a spectacular night following the inaugural event two years ago when World boxing champion Anthony Joshua and Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill attended.
Mountain biker Steve Peat, Olympic diver Freddie Woodward, who won Sportsman of the Year at the 2016 event, and the GB boxing Commonwealth Games medallists will be making an appearance.
The night will feature an exciting visual spectacular showcasing the fast-growing urban sports scene.
TV presenter Tanya Arnold will host the evening, interviewing many names from the world of sport. The event will recognise Sheffield’s contribution to the World Cup and will feature a poignant memorial to boxing trainer Brendan Ingle who died earlier this year.
