"If the Reds should play in Rome or Mandalay..."
Admittedly, holding the final of the world's most prestigious club football tournament 1,585 miles away in one of the world's most expensive cities wasn't one of UEFA's brightest ideas.
But wherever the Champion's League Final was held I was always going to make every effort to go should Manchester United progress.
Don't be fooled into thinking it's all about a game played by 22 men in shorts. Some people watch films. Some people fish. But for me, regardless of the result in the Luzhniki Stadium, Wednesday May 21 is the ultimate fulfilment of a lifelong hobby and one I have been lucky enough to have shared with two brothers and countless more friends, names and faces along the way.
I've been all over Europe with United. I froze in Copenhagen, escaped the Ultras in Rome, stood in the Olympic Stadium in Kiev and drank on Las Ramblas in Barcelona. And now I'm off to Moscow.
The cost is daft. The logistics are a headache. But I'll not remember either of those things in five, ten, twenty years time. United will have been in three European Cup finals in their history, two in my lifetime. All I will remember for the rest of my life is that win or lose, I was there.
If anyone else has any tales of sporting travels, drop us a line. We'd love to hear from you.
