Arnold Laver swing into action

28 August 2008

A leading national timber firm has teed off its fifth annual golf event to raise more than £2,500 for a local children’s charity.

Arnold Laver Timber World arranged a Pro-Am golf tournament, at Lindrick Golf Club, in conjunction with the North Region PGA, to raise funds for Sheffield Children's Hospital.

More than thirty teams took part, from around the North of England with each having a PGA British professional golfer making up a team of four, to compete for the team prize and the PGA Professional Prize.

Team Prize winners were from Gatley Golf Club, headed by Jonathan Cheetham, who represents England.

David Smith, professional at Swinton Park Golf Club in Manchester, scooped the Professional Prize, scoring 67, four under par.

Peter Howarth, sales director at Arnold Laver's Mosborough, Sheffield branch, said: "We have raised around £2500 which is excellent. Our thanks go to all those who got involved in the golf tournament to make it the success it was and to raise funds for such a worthwhile local charity.

"The tournament was a great day, so much so that we are hoping to arrange another date for next year."

Sheffield Children's Hospital Charity exists to support and enhance the services of Sheffield Children's NHS Trust and its reputation as a centre of excellence for the research, prevention, care and cure of childhood illnesses.

Simon Athey, senior fundraiser at Sheffield Children's Hospital Charity, said: "I am delighted with the overwhelming support we have had for this golf day, which has raised vital funds for the care of young patients in Sheffield.

"I attended the day and was thrilled to see the support from Arnold Laver and would like to give my thanks to everyone that made the day such a success."
