‘Team Steppe On’ to Mongolia for children’s charity

10 June 2008

A trio from Sheffield will be giving the BBC’s Top Gear gang a run for their money as they prepare for a pan-continental drive in support of a local children’s charity.

Team Steppe On It will take part in this year's 10,000 mile Mongolia Charity Rally, to raise money for Sheffield Children's Hospital Charity.

Team members Peter Tissington (30), his brother James Tissington (28) and Peter Williams (35), will drive from Sheffield to Mongolia in a silver Volvo 940, encountering mountain ranges, deserts and pot holes, before reaching their final Mongolian destination.

Peter Tissington, from Hunters Bar in Sheffield, said: "We're really excited about the rally, it's like something Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond would do on Top Gear, except we won't have back-up trucks, unlimited money and five star hotels to stay in!"

"We'll be driving through Western Europe, Poland, Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and finish in Mongolia's capital, Ulaanbaatar"

"We asked our friends which charity they thought we should raise money for. Most said the Children's Charity because they have benefited from the service at the hospital, or know someone who has. Hopefully we can raise our target of £5,000 for this worthwhile cause."

Sheffield Children's Hospital Charity is a registered charity that supports and enhances the services of Sheffield Children's NHS Foundation Trust.

Each year the Trust cares for around 180,000 patients.

Cheryl Ridge, fundraiser at Sheffield Children's Hospital Charity, said: "We are really privileged that the team are raising the money for the Children's Hospital. This is a very challenging drive but no doubt will be lots of fun!

"We wish them lots of luck and a drive that is as easy as possible. I'm looking forward to seeing the team on their return to see what they encountered along the way!"

Worrall Business Supplies, Harrats (Volvo), AB Graphics, Sheffield City Taxis and Pennine Lubricants are sponsoring Team Steppe On It. The rally will start on July 19, 2008 and is expected to take four weeks to complete.
