Sporting pioneer Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson has become the latest member of Sheffield FC.
Famous for her success as a Paralympics gold medallist, Dame Tanni has joined sporting stars such as Brazilian legend Pele, England cricket captain Michael Vaughan and FIFA President Sepp Blatter in becoming a proud member of the world's first football club.Dame Tanni said: "It is an honour to become a member of Sheffield Football Club alongside great sporting names such as Pele, Sir Bobby Charlton and Sir Geoff Hurst."
Dame Tanni was highly impressed with Sheffield FC's commitment to the community, especially their vital involvement and support of disabled sport.
Experiencing the club's valuable work at first hand, Dame Tanni made a trip to Westfield school in Sheffield to officially open the facilities as a sports college.
Showing continued support and development within the local community, Sheffield FC works closely with staff and pupils at Westfield Sports College to promote coordination and fitness as well as encouraging healthy eating.
The club operates a successful breakfast club which includes many healthy options to improve pupils' diet.
Lee Walshaw, Sheffield FC's Community Manager, said: "We are really pleased to be supporting Westfield Sports College in this way and recognise the need to promote both exercise and healthy eating to youngsters.
"We have already had some excellent feedback about the scheme and it is said to be having a positive effect on the pupils' behaviour and school work."
