Liberata’s hot coal charity challenge

1 November 2007

The red hot fundraising efforts of staff from Sheffield-based Liberata have boosted a South Yorkshire children’s charity.

A group of 10 employees raised more than £1,000 for Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice by taking part in a charity firewalk, in Tudor Square, in the city centre.

The challenge, which was led by twice fire walking world record holder Scott Bell, saw the daredevil Liberata staff walk barefoot over red hot coals burning at more than 500 degrees.

Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice, near Dinnington, will provide specialist care and respite for seriously ill children and their families who live in the South Yorkshire and North Midlands area.

It will be open for emergency care by the end of the year, and will fully open in 2008.

Dale Wood, Client Director at Liberata, which manages council tax and housing benefits on behalf of Sheffield City Council, said: "We are delighted to have raised such a substantial amount of money for Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice.

"We are always really keen to support local charities and it is wonderful that our fundraising efforts will help pay for vital specialist equipment to care for young people at the Hospice.

"I was extremely proud of our team completing this very daunting challenge. Most of the staff had never done anything like this before and it was the ultimate test of mind over matter."
