New year – new roads?
January 2012 by Abby WorsnipThe new year has started and so has the purge for the urge to be fitter and stronger and better at any type of physical activity, well anything, I take part in.
Back to work after the Christmas break always means the short wait for the Derwent Dambuster entries to open – and I’m in at number 44. Now the training starts in earnest. Ten miles already under my belt in two five mile runs with two mins knocked off between the two. Must have been feeling a bit lazy on the first run out.
And then there’s the competition between people at work, some of whom have decided to give the fitness thing a good kick and entered other races. Sarah, who's down for the Sheffield Half Marathon, Martin who's fitness regime starts today and Kim, keep on it with training for the London Marathon. It’s on the same day as the Dambuster – think I know which one I’d prefer to be doing...
Anyway, now the training started and the old Achilles is holding up thanks to some rather expensive orthotic inserts, it’s all about deciding where to run on the training schedule. The dark mornings and nights make the more scenic routes difficult in the week so it's finding some more interesting roads to run on that my usual ones.
Then there’s joining a running club – anyone know a good one?
